SOMETHING A LITTLE GRAPHIC

My Playlist

Music has always had an influence on my creativity. I use it to relax, focus, and inspire me. When I’m blue it enlightens me; when I’m happy, it keeps me up in the rafters.
I’ve been told I have a strange and odd taste in music… I admit, I do have an eclectic range but that’s probably because I love all music.
So it was REALLY hard to narrow down a short list of that I couldn’t live without. It is longer than I had anticipated, but thorough nonetheless.

I hope these songs will enlighten you too.

(in no particular order)

SHIVER – COLDPLAY
Coldplay is one of my favourite bands of all time. There is rarely a song they have produced that I haven’t enjoyed. However, this particular song strikes a specific cord because it reminds me of riding the train to Toronto on my way to work. One of the best summers I can remember where music was such an integral part of my existence.
BE – COMMON
I was never one who could appreciate hip hop or rap; before I met Justin that is. Then I realised that I was shutting out an entire genre of music due to personal bias. This particular song of Common’s merges a jazzy beat with lyrical poetry.
LET GO – FROU FROU
I first became aware of Frou Frou with their song “must be dreaming”. So when the film Garden State was released, I fell in love with this song from the film’s soundtrack. I feel like I’m flying and free when I hear this song. Like the world doesn’t exist.
WARM WINTER – KID ROCK
This song I heard for the first time from the Crow: Salvation soundtrack. The lyrics at the time were dark enough for me to release my frustrations.
PORCELAIN – MOBY
I have a thing with this song. It might seem morbid or strange, but I always feel like I’m drowning when I hear this song; miles away and on the precipice of death’s door. Its so comforting to hear.
WITH EVERY LIGHT – SMASHING PUMPKINS
Smashing Pumpkins is another band I have always loved. I was upset, however, their greatest hits album that did not include this song. It always gives me hope from its lyrics.
I SHALL BELIEVE – CHERYL CROW
Such a beautiful song – it’s lyrics makes my heart flutter and strain at the same time.
DIFFERENT SOUND (FEATURING MALTE) – THE TEDDYBEARS
This album (Soft Machine) is so awesome. The song is so upbeat and moving. I can’t help but geek out when I hear it.
CLUBBED TO DEATH – ROB D
This song should always be tucked away in your music collection. It’s beats makes me think of hunting vampires. Don’t ask me why, since I first heard it on the Matrix soundtrack. This is another example of pure music.
BETTER PEOPLE – XAVIER RUDD
This Australian musician was introduced to me during my short stint with Green Peace. His musical talent allows him a platform in which to stress how fragile and important our planet is, the people who inhabit it, and those who seek to destroy all that is good through greed.
CHILD IN TIME – DEEP PURPLE
The best song that has ever come out of the 70’s! This ten minute song has over 2:30 of a guitar solo that is so incredible and awesome I’m shocked it’s not everyone’s favourite too. My all time fav. group from the 70’s. Thanks dad, for introducing me to musical genius.
BABE I’M GONNA LEAVE YOU – LED ZEPPELIN
Since I have an affinity for 70’s classic rock, I couldn’t NOT include zeppelin. I love the lyrics and the drug-induced feeling I get when I hear this song.
ANY COLOR YOU LIKE – PINK FLOYD
Look beyond the wall and come over to the dark side of the moon with me. This album is one of my favourites; from a time where whole albums were awesome and timeless. A song that makes everything feel timeless.
NEVER THINK – ROB PATTINSON
I love this song for its simplicity - A cool dude with just a guitar and his sultry, pleading voice. Ahh…. Swoon!
HOLD TIGHT – DAVE DEE, DOSEY, BEAKY, MITCH & TICH
Applause for the man who has the BEST taste in music – Quentin Tarantino! Why this band didn’t get more recognition, I am totally clueless. Awesome 60’s music in my mind.
SEX ON FIRE – KINGS OF LEON
So cool… makes me laugh and giggle at the thought. Another geek-out worthy song in my collection.
BRA – CYMANDE
Cymande (see-man-day). Very cool band – sounds like a mix of reggae and jazz. Just chill out in a club and be mello.
LAUDATE DOMINUM (IN F MINOR) – MOZART
I saved the best for last. From a scientific point, Mozart is supposed to increase your brain’s activity and therefore make you more receptive and creative. I love this song because its so beautiful I could cry.

Portfolio

So this is my blog...

So according to Evan Spiridellis of JIBJAB, I am a total idiot for not having a blog in these times of global communication and awareness. I spent my entire time at Sheridan College, determind, not to get involved with a blog. Why, you may ask? Well, it all started way, way, way back in late 2000 when I decided to start my own web page to post my art, rantings, and updates about my sad life. After 4 years and countless hours of modifiying html code and javascripts, a funny thing happened - NO ONE WAS VIEWING MY PAGE. I had a guestbook AND a web forum, pages upon pages of my art from the terrible to the horrible of my pre-triciary educated art and design - Hoping one day to be viewed by strangers and other artists alike who wold write to me, "hey, like your stuff!".... FOUR YEARS went by and I heard nothing back from the reverberating "ping" of internet-land. No one saw my stuff, no one cared and so I gave up on internet celebrity and concentrated on being a quiet "unknown" at school until I could show my face at 64.231.65.86 as a real artist.

Plus I was worried I wouldn't feel compelled to update my page often enough. But, if I was able to do it once before with no talent or skillz, then surely I can now, and furtherly, be inspired to update said blog by my other fellow bloggers.

So without further adue (and reading) I give you *drum roll* MY BLOG!
